Low-income households from one of the states will surely benefit from the Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP), which is a guaranteed income of $725 per month that is meant to support families with young children. FFESP payments first got paid to citizens in December 2024 and these payments are believed to continue right up until November 2025.

The program was initiated as a way to support parents in the state so they can provide better care to their children. Alleviating financial stress was the focal point of this support program.

How many families are benefiting from the Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP)?

Thus far, a total of 200 selected families in the state are gladly reaping the benefits of the Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP). The core premise behind supporting the 200 families in the state was to reduce economic inequality. Families who gain this financial aid will be better equipped to meet the needs of their children.

A $725 direct monthly payment is received by the 200 families in California involved in piloting this financial support program. Families will continue receiving the $725 monthly payments until the end of the year and will in turn receive $8, 700 for the year.

How were these 200 families selected?

Applications for this FFESP program closed on October 13, 2024. The way the chosen families were selected was based on a lottery-style system. The idea behind using a lottery system approach was to ensure that all the families who applied were given a fair chance to gain financial benefit. Furthermore, fairness was a core principle in deciding who the first ever FFESP would be distributed to.

Those citizens who missed the deadline, need to remain on high alert as further initiatives to support low-income families in the state may be well underway.

Why introduce the FFESP?

The FFESP was introduced to provide financial assistance to families who require it while attempting to reduce childhood poverty in certain communities. The payment allows parents to cater to the basic needs of their children and in turn rectifies the racial and economic disparities in the way income is distributed.

While many other welfare programs have restrictions on what the funds provided could be used for, the FFESP money could go towards:

  • Childcare expenses
  • Transportation
  • Rent
  • Healthcare needs
  • Food
  • Utilities

While the FFESP is merely a one-year pilot program, it will be used to assess the feasibility of future programs aimed at providing financial relief to many homes. The state officials and policymakers will use this program’s success to determine whether they should re-introduce the same program or whether new programs should be initiated in the future.

Which state is eligible for the FFESP program?

This economic stimulus program was launched in California at the end of 2024. This Sacramento Family First program is meant for residents who reside in the following zip codes: 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828, and 95838.

According to the official Sacramento County Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services website, further criteria to be deemed eligible for the FFESP program is for the household’s income to be below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Furthermore, the families applying for the program must have at least one child below the age of five. The family who wishes to seek solace from the FFESP cannot participate in other guaranteed income programs.

A program like this will surely provide much financial relief to struggling families in Sacramento County. The program should work well as it allows parents to be in control of the well-being of their children.

Citizens are reminded to stay abreast of all the new checks mentioned for California. While the application period for this particular year-long pilot program is closed, citizens in California are reminded to contact the Sacramento Department of Human Assistance and the California Department of Social Assistance to stay in the loop about further financial initiatives to help those in the state of California. Citizens can also visit the official website of the Sacramento County Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services.
